10 things you need to know about the DJI Mavic Pro!

10 things you need to know about DJI Mavic Pro features

The DJI Mavic Pro is one of the most interesting drones we’ve seen this year. It combines a small form factor with lots of features usually seen on drones much larger in size.

DJI launched the Mavic Pro only a little over a week after the launch of the GoPro Karma. The Mavic Pro also comes out on top according to many in the Mavic Pro vs GoPro Karma battle, but there’s still a few things that you might not know about the Mavic Pro.

This is why we made a list of the top 10 features of the DJI Mavic Pro.

10 things you need to know about the DJI Mavic Pro

1. Flying range

DJI Mavic Pro

The DJI drone can be piloted at a distance of up to 4.3 miles (7km) and still stream video to your smartphone through OcuSync transmission technology. This is way beyond the usual range of such foldable quadcopters, and definitely something you should take a note of!

2. Obstacle avoidance

DJI Mavic Pro

The DJI Mavic Pro utilizes a feature called FlightAutonomy, which allows the drone to see obstacles as far as 49 feet (15m) in front of it, that means it can fly at a speed of up to 22mph (36km/h) and still avoid crashes.

What this means is that even if the drone goes out of control, you’ll still know it’ll return to home without a scratch!

3. Precision hover

DJI Mavic Pro

FlightAutonomy technology also makes the Mavic Pro hover precisely in more environments and land it where you took off. This technology basically builds on existing features that you’ll find on older DJI drones, such as the Phantom 3 Standard.

4. Long flight time

Although tiny when folded, the DJI Mavic Pro still features a massive 3,830mAh battery which fuels the drone for 27 minutes, this assuming you’re flying in the least power consuming mode, of course.

That said, you can still expect over 20 minutes of flight time (even in Sport Mode) which we think is quite rad for a foldable consumer drone!

5. ActiveTrack

DJI Mavic Pro

With ActiveTrack you can tell the DJI Mavic Pro who to track and it’ll do everything automatically.

The ActiveTrack feature has 3 different modes:

  • Trace: Follow your subject from behind or in front of it, or circle it while it moves
  • Profile: Fly beside your subject
  • Spotlight: Keeps the camera on your subject while you fly it around

In the end, you’re left with some super stable video with the subject more or less looking like the subject!

6. Fly it with your smartphone

DJI Mavic Pro

You can fly the DJI Mavic Pro with your smartphone alone, there’s no need of a transmitter, you simple push a switch on the drone and it’s now in Wi-Fi mode. The ranges drops to around 80 meters, though.

7. 4K stabilized camera

DJI Mavic Pro

The Mavic Pro sports a 4K ultra HD video camera on an ultra precise 3-axis gimbal and it’s able to shoot 4K at 30fps. It can also shoot 1080p at 96fps if you want a smoother video. The camera can take 12-megapixel photos with Adobe DNG RAW support, this allows you to take your shots and enhance them in post via photo editing software (e.g. Adobe Photoshop Lightroom).

8. DJI goggles

DJI Mavic Pro

DJI also made some FPV goggles to go along with the Mavic Pro, they work via OcuSync wireless low latency connection and they pack two 1920 by 1080 screens inside the casing.

9. Maximum Speed

DJI Mavic Pro

The Mavic Pro can fly at a maximum speed of 40 mph (64 km/h), only 5 mph less than the bigger DJI Phantom 4. Really impressing considering the overall size of the drone and its motors.

10. Weight & Size

DJI Mavic Pro

The DJI Mavic Pro weighs a mere 1.62lbs (734g) and its dimensions are 83 x 83 x 198mm when folded up. Pretty amazing at roughly the size of a water bottle!

DJI Mavic Pro

The DJI Mavic Pro will be priced $999 with the transmitter and $740 without it. For $1249 you instead get a bundle with the drone, transmitter, a couple of extra batteries, extra propellers, a charging station, some adapters and a car charger.

It can already be preordered via DJI’s store and it will be shipped starting October 15th.
