Xiaomi today announced another product to add to its ever expanding catalogue. The YiCamera, as it is known as, is essentially a GoPro rival meant for adventure freaks. Starting at just 399 CNY or roughly $64, the YiCamera already looks like a bargain.
The YiCamera comes with a 16 mega-pixel BSI-enabled sensor from Sony (Exmor R CMOS) with an aperture of f/2.8 and a 155-degree lens for wide-angle view. It is capable of doing video in 1080p (sorry, no 4K support here) at a healthy 60 frames per second, compressed using the H.264 algorithm.

The top rivals that the YiCamera will have on the market include a certain few GoPro models, the SJ4000 action camera, and then some Mobius action cameras including the 808 #16. WiFi and Bluetooth that are present on the YiCamera mean that the YiCamera will be competing against higher-end action cams.
The camera is also waterproof when immersed in waters up to 40 meters deep.
Besides being a fit for adventure freaks, I have a feeling the YiCamera will be very popular among us, drone fliers. It’s also very affordable, and while it isn’t clear yet, the YiCamera might also be fit to use GoPro accessories — which is a win-win sort of a thing.
Resellers on portals such as AliExpress, and standalone web-shops will soon be offering the device with a 15-20% markup. Trusted reseller Geekbuying, for example, has the camera on pre-sale for $99.99 with free shipping.Mi, via GizChina ]
