Syma X8W aka X8C with WiFi FPV now official

The Syma X8C already seems like quite a popular quadcopter drone. The fact that it can mount action cameras without much of a hassle, combined with the not-so-high cost is probably what makes for the USP of the quadcopter drone. Meanwhile, Syma also gave the WiFi FPV version of the quadcopter — the Syma X8W — a ninja launch.

  • Model: Syma X8W
  • Size group: Full sized
  • Battery: 2000mAh
  • Camera: 2 mega-pixel
  • Headless mode: Yes
  • Other: One Key Return
  • Price: $118.99 shipped

The Syma X8W is essentially an X8C but with the addition of WiFi FPV. It comes with a 2 mega-pixel camera, while all the X8C lists is an ‘HD camera’. Nonetheless, at just around $10 over the usual price of the X8C, the WiFi FPV enabled X8W looks like a decent buy if you’re into WiFi FPV.

If you aren’t aware, WiFi FPV allows you to stream video from the quadcopter drone’s camera right on to your phone’s screen. To achieve this, it uses the 2.4GHz WiFi technology, and thus, installation of an additional application is usually. The Syma X8W comes with a 2000mAh LiPo battery, which should provide 10-12 minutes of flight time to the X8W.

The controller of the X8W comes with adjustable mounts that allow you to mount your smartphone on to it. The Syma X8W can be purchased from GearBest.com for $118.99 shipped.

Will the x8w camera work on the original x8c? For 27 more bucks I could have both cameras to choose from if so. Line of site at night and FPV during the day 🙂

    • That’s an interesting arrangement Eddie. I’ll check with the resellers/makers if that’s possible; I have a feeling it is.

Hi, do you know of better instructions on how to connect the controller/camera to the app? The instructions in the manual are really, really awful (they probably used Google Translate to translate it to English or something).

    I couldn’t find anything myself.

    • Sorry, don’t have an X8W here (only an X8C). I do however have an HT F801C which uses WiFi FPV, and I agree instructions are really awful. I don’t know how the X8W WiFi FPV app works, but one thing that you need to make sure of before doing anything else is that your phone MUST be connected to the WiFi hostpot created by the quadcopter.
