DJI Demands UK Pilots to Solve a ‘Knowledge Quiz’ before Flying

Apparently, DJI is willing to sacrifice customers satisfaction ratings for slightly more flight safety, or at least that’s what it looks like. DJI did indeed just release an update that added a very interesting “feature” for UK drone enthusiasts, a mandatory Knowledge Quiz the first time you launch the app.

The app in question is the DJI GO 4 app, which is what you need to use the company’s snap-on controller. Once you answer all the questions successfully, you’ll be able to fly the drone.

Earlier this year, DJI had launched a similar quiz for US pilots. The UK version is slightly different as it has specific laws for the country, the quiz also has the blessing of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), which oversees British drone laws, and the ARPAS-UK, a trade association for remotely piloted aircraft.

Nevertheless, this quiz is the prelude to what we’ll be seeing in the spring of 2018. There will indeed be a new legislation that will force UK drone pilots to sit a safety awareness test. We aren’t sure if DJI’s knowledge quiz is in any way, shape or form, similar to what we’ll have in the government exam, but either way, it’s a good action to have savvier pilots and thus reduce drone accidents.
