Cheerson have a thing for small drones; first the CX-10, then the CX-10A, then the CX-Stars and CX-10C, and now, the CX-10W. What this lineup also suggests is that the factory has a vested interest in the CX-10 series, and doesn’t want to pull the plug on it anytime soon.
If you aren’t familiar with the above mentioned models, allow me to tell you that each of them has been the world’s smallest at one point in time. While the CX-10 was THE world’s smallest drone, the CX-10C was the world’s smallest camera drone.

Newest in town is the CX-10W. What the CX-10W is that it is the world’s smallest FPV (first person view) drone, and is priced fairly attractively at a mere $35 ($33 if you don’t want a controller — more on this later).
Essentially, the Cheerson CX-10W creates a WiFi hotspot of its own that you can connect to using your smartphone. Your phone can now be used as an FPV monitor as well as a controller.
While the concept itself is very interesting and novel, it isn’t the first time this has been achieved. In fact, the Cheerson CX-10W appears to be the same deal as the FQ777-954, which we’ve already had in the office since the past few weeks.
Coming back to the CX-10W, it comes with a 0.3 mega-pixel 720p camera and has a microSD slot which you can use to save footage. The FPV range is said to be around 15 meters, which isn’t a lot but you probably don’t want to go any further because that’ll make the quadcopter drone nearly invisible.
Cheerson CX-10W: App control
The CX-10W, like the FQ777-954, can be controller via an app that you can install on your Android or iOS smartphone. Using your phone, you can control the drone in two ways:
- using on-screen navigation sticks
- using your phone’s motion sensor
Getting used to controlling the drone via your phone’s motion sensor takes a while, but can be a hell lot of fun… especially during parties and such.
Cheerson CX-10W: Standard Controller
The CX-10W comes in a couple of bundles, with and without the controller. To get the controller, you only pay $2 extra; so I personally highly recommend getting the controller version. What this means is that you can go back to the controller for a while if the app doesn’t turn out to be what you expected.
