The Eachine 3D X4 is probably the best known inverted flier on the market, but another quadcopter, namely the JY Toys JY004A does the same. The difference is only in the controller, and a little bit in the price.
Additionally, the JY Toys JY004A also comes with a spare canopy with a spider man look to it, which can be a fun addition if you’re that kind.
Let us find out how good the affordable JY004A actually is in the JY004A review!

JY Toys JY004A Review: Build Quality
There are a certain trade-offs that manufacturers have to make when creating quadcopters that can fly upside down, i.e., inverted. In the case of the JY004A, JY Toys has made the aircraft with arms that look more like ‘tentacles’.
However, I’ve managed to crash the copter multiple times (on purpose and otherwise) but there’s no apparent damage as yet, which is reassuring.
The wiring is exposed in certain sections though, which is something I didn’t like in particular. Take a look at the pictures below to get an idea of what I’m talking about.
The manner in which the JY004A is made makes it feel extremely light, which is more of a pro than a con when we’re talking quadcopters.
Overall I’d say that the only downer is in the form of the exposed wiring, which JY Toys could’ve probably avoided without adding a lot of the manufacturing cost.

JY Toys JY004A Review: Flight Characteristics
In a nutshell, the JY004A is a lot of fun. Especially the inverted flight mode. What’s more, the quadcopter can take off in inverted mode, which means that if you’ve crashed and landed upside down, you don’t need to go all the way to the aircraft to turn it around… a lazy ass’s dream come true!
On a serious note, the JY004A’s unique selling point is the inverted flight capability. In ‘normal’ i.e., upright mode, the JY004A is pretty slow to react and will usually even drift in one direction. However, once you flip it around, it’s a lot faster and way more fun… and much easier to control too.
The copter has three flight modes, and if you’ve ever flown a quadcopter before this one, you will want to remain in mode 3 aka high rates.
Yaw rates in low and medium modes are pretty slow… and aren’t the fastest in high mode also (in fact, they’re the same throughout). But then that isn’t what you will buy the quadcopter for, right?
There was an issue with the front right blade on my JY004A which caused it to drift in one side, something no amount of trimming could fix. However, replacing the blade with a spare one did the trick.
JY Toys JY004A Review: Battery
The JY004A comes with a rather small battery, at 150mAh. The fact that the quadcopter also does inverted flights means that the blades on the motors aren’t the regular design… and this somehow takes a lot of extra juice from the teeny battery.
This is maybe why the JY004A doesn’t fly for as long as something like an Eachine H8 Mini (review) which has the same battery.
Nonetheless, a 25 minute charge for 5 minutes of fun does sound worth it!
JY Toys JY004A Review: Controller
The controller that ships with the JY Toys JY004A isn’t the usual design that you see on something like a Cheerson CX-10A (review) or an Eachine H8 Mini (review). Instead, it’s a little larger and thus, easier to hold and use.
Again, the JY004A being a toy quadcopter, the joysticks aren’t made for pinching. Unlike other quadcopter controllers, changing the sticks to longer ones doesn’t look possible on this one.
The controller takes 3x AA batteries.
JY Toys JY004A Review: Conclusion
The JY004A is a brilliant entry-level quadcopter that packs a lot of fun in it. It was my first quadcopter which could do inverted flights, and even after two weeks of flying it I’m yet not bored of it.
In simple words, the JY004A is a brilliant addition to any budding quadcopter enthusiast’s arsenal!
